Off Planet

It is said that Elon Musk wants to go to Mars. Whether there is a possibility that this will happen is not a given. Not by a long shot, pardon the pun. However, if we take that trip seriously and if it actually comes to fruition, what then? Have you considered what will be gained by going to Mars? That’s a long way from lunch if they run out of water, or food, or oxygen. A suicide mission? Probably, at least the first one or two attempts. I’m not going and you cannot talk me into it. Geriatrics and space don’t mix.

What is to be gained by going to Mars? It seems like a noble thing to do to some. After all, they tell us, we’re explorers so it’s natural to go there. How did exploration work out? Seems a lot of innocent people on all sides got killed by explorers including a lot of explorers. Nobody ever heard from the dead either. But, say we do manage to go there, what then? Do we start building tract housing? Put in sewers and water catchment systems? 7-11’s? A bowling alley? Will Amazon deliver there? Will Sears and Roebucks open a new branch there? A new Chevy dealership, perhaps? BMW? Ford? Packard?

Whether any of that happens we are bringing ourselves there, right? How have we been getting along, say, the last five thousand years, here? Before Jesus, that is? Do you think He is going to let us go there given what we are here? Will Democrats finally come to their senses if they go there?

Musk knows an awful lot but he doesn’t know the Bible. At least, not as far as I have heard. The Bible tells a different story of our future and half of what it says has to do with our past that brought us to our present. It does not bode well for that trip to Mars.
