Even in war, when murder is legal, it is wrong to kill another. I learned this the hard way and even though what I had to do was required I bear that weight everyday. When a thoughful person actually fails to consider the circumstance of another human being, death is always inevitable. Why the need to hurry death? What exists in our mental makeup that seems to require murder as a solution to average problems? The same problems that face us all from time to time.
What I am saying here is as old as the human race. I know that but until you have been there the thoughts of the death of others is not that difficult to consider. The “easy” way out is not easy unless one is psychotic. For me and those I served with it is wrong to have done. We know that now. Everyone who does the unthinkable ends up knowing it now.
There are, of course, some cultures that nurture thinking of the death of others. It is part of their paranoid political dogma. It is these that have no hope other than to kill and we now have this on our college campuses. Shallow minded, reactionary individuals who cannot think straight and are easily swayed to do harm. “They deserve it!” No, no one deserves to be murdered until it comes down to the reality of kill or be killed. Looking back, that can be a difficult choice. Certainly, more difficult than subjugating oneself to the “crowd.” It is the pathetic state of mind of one who lacks moral clear and concise judgement. Killing, in all its forms, is murder. Is life not already short enough?
